Powerpoint and USB Wall Sockets Installation

All-Stars In Service and Solutions!

Coming From The Walls

Powerpoints (General Power Outlets, or GPOs) might not be something we think about much, but they’re responsible for letting houses, commercial properties, and offices stay afloat. Usually installed on the walls, they power our appliances and all of our electrical needs in a convenient and safe way. Nowadays, some wall sockets even come with USB ports, allowing us to charge mobile devices without occupying the larger socket.

Coming From The Walls

This simple-looking fixture takes a lot of electrical expertise to not only install, but also place in effective locations.

At ASSA, we have a team of expert electricians that know how to plan out your electrical network, installing powerpoints in the most convenient locations for daily use. We are familiar with all electric safety protocols, and will make sure your wall sockets are perfectly safe.

5 USB Wall Socket Safety Tips

While USB sockets on outlets may still seem foreign, they are becoming more and more mainstream in newer homes. Here are five things you can do to have a safer experience with USB wall sockets:

1
Don’t use substandard chargers

There are plenty of chargers on the market that aren’t by the original device makers, which some may prefer due to the (typically) lower price. Be careful with what you buy, though, as chargers of poor quality are much more likely to cause issues and accidents.

2
Don’t plug in too many devices

Most USB wall sockets have a limited amount of amperage, and if the wall socket has more than one USB port, the current will be shared between them. Trying to charge two tablets together at the same time will result in slow charging, but if something malfunctions, it could overload the socket.

3
Use charging-only USB cables

Charging-only USB cables can’t transmit data, only charge devices. This makes them more secure than their normal counterparts. While the risk is low when using USB wall sockets at home, you might consider using a charging-only cable in public instead.

4
Use caution with public USB wall sockets

While USB wall sockets are physically safe, there is always a chance of foul play with public sockets. Even when plugged into a wall socket, devices still transmit data via the USB cable, and this allows hackers or viruses a way in.

5
Unplug unused wires

Unused USB charging cables still draw current, heating up the cable a little bit. While unlikely, there is still a mild chance that it could heat up something flammable like a towel, especially if the outlet or cable malfunctions. Removing the cables eliminates this risk, and also saves a bit of money on your electric bill.

Installing a powerpoint safely requires in-depth knowledge of wiring. Improper installation could result in unsafe outlets that create sparks, leading to damage and costly repairs. Furthermore, there is always the risk of electrocution during the installation process. Don’t risk your own safety.

One powerpoint should take about half an hour to finish installing on average. Planning and installing a whole series of powerpoints may take days to accomplish.

A device plugged into a USB wall socket still transmits some data; when plugging into a public USB wall socket, your device could be susceptible to security breaches. For USB wall sockets at home or other private locations, however, the risk is much lower and they are safe to use.
